Tree Types

Fraser Fir

One of America's most popular Christmas trees - and for good reason - the Fraser fir touts blue-green needles with silvery undersides. With excellenct needle retention and stiff branches, it holds up well to ornaments. Of course, the pleasant scent is a major perk, too.

Douglas Fir

A classic choice! Dense with soft, light green needles and a pleasant scent, the Douglas fir is one of the most popular Christmas tree species. Because the branches are not as stiff as some other species, and is best decorated with light-weight ornaments.

Colorado Spruce

The Colorado blue spruce is a popular choice due to its lovely silver-blue color. Its branches are stiff and hold heavy ornaments well, but take care — blue spruce needles are quite sharp! Wear gloves and long sleeves when handling. However, its needles can help keep pets away from the tree. This tree is best displayed for 2-3 weeks before needle retention is compromised.

Canaan Fir

The Canaan fir has rich color, a pleasant fragrance and an attractive layered structure that is ideal for displaying ornaments. The needles of the Canaan fir are relatively short and soft.

Tree Care

Follow these tips to keep your tree fresh and safe.

•    We will provide a fresh cut for your tree to take in water. Be sure to provide abundant fresh water

and place your tree away from direct sunlight, fireplaces, and HVAC vents that could dry out your

tree. We sell tree preservative to help extend the life of your tree.

•    If you buy your tree more than 24 hours before you plan to set it up, store the tree outdoors in

and area sheltered from sun and wind until you are ready to bring inside.

•    Use a tree stand that holds plenty of water.  Your tree is thirsty and will need up to a 4 liters of

water a day.  Use warm tap water and optional tree preservative (sold at Shipley Farms).  If you

allow the water level to drop below the bottom of the tree, a seal will form just as it does on a cut

flower and a new cut will be necessary to allow the tree to continue to take in water.

•    Place your tree away from fireplaces, radiators, and other sources of heat.  Turn off the tree lights

     when you leave and overnight.

Following these measures should ensure a beautiful Christmas tree that stays fresh through the holiday.

Wishing You a Happy Christmas!
